| Trailers archive - January 2008 - page 5 At last, the devs from Arkane Studios (Arx Fatalis, Dark Messiah) joined by the art director of Half-Life 2 are showing off their supposedly breakthrough action game The Crossing, built on Valve's Source engine. They claim it will be the first "crossplayer FPS" ever, by fusing single-player with multiplayer, in a shooter where NCPs can be players.
Along with next month's Jumper movie premiere, also comes the Jumper: Griffin's Story fighting game for the PS2, Xbox 360 and Wii consoles, developed by Brash Entertainment, published by Eidos, and briefly shown in this trailer mixing cinematics with gameplay footage. Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops redefines the stealth action genre for handheld gaming systems with an original storyline that follows from the events of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and boasts ground-breaking online play that lets gamers recruit comrades to form a unique fighting force. The single-player campaign of Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops follows the events of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, as Naked Snake establishes FOXHOUND in an attempt to hunt down the treacherous FOX unit, which has started a bloody revolt in South America. Set in 1970, the game will be the missing link in the ongoing Metal Gear saga, as players will learn more about returning characters such as Para-Medic, Major Zero and Sigint and also witness Naked Snake's greatest tragedy - a loss that sets into motion the events of later games in the Metal Gear Solid timeline. Burnout Paradise proves that crashing is awesome! Next generation technology has enabled an unprecedented level of crash deformation allowing you to experience the most explosive pile-ups in the series' history. Now the development team can realise their original vision for the Burnout franchise: an open world environment where you can do anything, anywhere, anytime! Turok is an epic, story-driven first-person shooter set on a dark, mysterious planet in the near future. Players take on the role of Joseph Turok, a former Black Ops commando, now part of an elite Special Forces squad on a mission to take down a war criminal on a genetically-altered planet. After the ship is shot down while approaching the planet, Joseph Turok must use his instincts and elite military training to elude an army of well-trained soldiers, and the ravenous, unpredictable creatures that populate the dangerous environment. Joseph Turok's mission? Survive at all costs. Launching at the end of this month in Japan - as shown in this trailer - is Tales of Destiny Director's Cut, a new version of the classical RPG's remake on the PS2, which includes a new game mode called the "Lion's Side" (making Lion Magnus the main character instead of Stan Aileron), alongside other additions, both in-game and in its Premium Box. Another Japanese trailer comes from Atlus, for their new surgically precise adventure / simulation game Trauma Center: New Blood, mixing surgery and hospital politics on the Nintendo Wii. An extensive Japanese trailer for Super Smash Bros. Brawl, in which characters from all Nintendo universes meet up in Nintendo locales to duke it out on the Nintendo Wii. Yep, it's all about Nintendo in this one, and it's also worth mentioning that the game recently scored a perfect 40/40 in the Famitsu magazine. In this Japanese trailer for Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, we get to see how SEGA's upcoming sports game plays like on the Nintendo DS console. Savage 2: A Tortured Soul is the sequel to the critically acclaimed online multiplayer game Savage: A Battle for Newerth, which introduced gamers to the completely new Real Time Strategy Shooter (RTSS) gaming genre. Savage enabled players to opt for either the fast-paced, run-and-gun action of a first-person shooter (FPS) game - playing as a Warrior - or the more cerebral and tactical planning of a real-time strategy (RTS) game - playing as a Commander - working together as a team to defeat the enemy. Savage 2: A Tortured Soul builds upon the addicting, fast-paced gameplay of the original with additional squad-based features and enhanced role-playing game (RPG) elements which enable players to build their character level and abilities throughout the game. |
