Top 7 Games in 2016

2016 saw some cool new releases in the gaming world but which games should you spend your hard earned money on?  Here are 7 of the best games released in 2016 thus far in no particular order.

1. Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Taking Lego and combining it with the latest installment of the ever popular Star Wars franchise the game creators have hit Nerdvana.  This game doesn’t necessarily create something new the way Lego Dimensions did but it’s fun, engaging and suitable for all ages.  For the adult Star Wars fans it is worth a chuckle or two.

2. Mirror’s Edge Catalyst

Mirror’s Edge Catalyst is a first person action game that instead of relying on guns and explosions it uses parkour…how cool is that.  It’s got incredibly responsive controls and the sheer variety of moves you can do is exhilarating.  The game does rely on a great sense of timing and more than a little hand eye coordination.

3.  Overwatch

Overwatch is set on earth in the near future and it is a stylized team based shooting game.  It’s an intense showdown that puts the team of soldiers up against mercenaries, adventurers and scientists in fights that span the entire globe.  This game has tons of layers the further you play the more spectacular the game gets.

4. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End

Uncharted 4, developed by Naughty Dog leads you around the world in search of rare treasures from famous legends.  The game is powerful featuring lessons in betrayal, loss, regret and redemption on an intricately designed back drop.  Check out the video to see some of the cool moves.

5. Doom

Doom is a new release that is louder and faster than the previous incarnations from Doom of the early 90’s.  There are some familiar faces in a world with explosions, hellfire and full of demons.  This time around though you have not only better graphics but a collection of great weapons at your disposal.

6.  Dark Souls III

Dark Souls III is a dark fantasy role playing game that can be brutally difficult.  The world is huge and offers you more than path to navigate through to get to your destination.  The design is well done and you can advance to new levels without the world becoming overwhelming.

7.  Tom Clancy’s The Division

The Division takes place in the aftermath of a biological attack on New York City and it’s your job to save the city from the opportunistic criminals.  It’s an RPG that lets you chase down bad guys as you immerse yourself in that world.  The backgrounds are well done with sections of a desolated Midtown, you can spend hours as you kill the bad guys and save the world.

Video Game Website Designs

Gamers live in a world unto themselves, when a gamer gets into a game they want to know absolutely EVERYTHING.  They are kinda like Game of Thrones fans that way…a little obsessive.  Gamers want to know everything not just cheat codes, they want to know who makes the game, the game company history and what inspired the game.

Video games have come a long way since the early days of Pong, today the graphics are incredible, the worlds are realistic and intricate and they have evolved to have entire communities that support gaming.  Every time a new game is launched there is a video game website that goes along with it.  There are usually two kinds of websites set up surrounding a game.

Video Game Website Types

The first generally launches before the game is released they are graphics rich, there are sliders videos, leader boards and more.  Video games websites are some of the best websites ever built.  They are incredible creative, like the games they represent.  They have game guides, screen shots, video clips and forums filled with an interactive community.  Here is an example of the Hawken game website, it gives you an idea of how creative they can be.

Video Games Website Designs

The other type of video game websites that you will find are fan sites.  These are usually built with a gaming website template and they can have pretty active communities surrounding them.  This is where you will find a lot of tips and cheat codes if they are available.  Fan sites while they are necessarily as creative as the gaming websites put up by developers the dedication by the community is fantastic.

Gaming Website Design Examples

The first site you should have a look at is Halo: Waypoint the site was developed by Microsoft the creators of Halo and it is the hub for all Halo releases.  It brings the richness of the game right to the website the way it uses fonts, the menu and the design.  It makes user engagement simple with leaderboards, stats and game information.

The other is built for gaming fans of all kinds of different game genres, everything from Mario Kart to Grand Theft Auto.  Fanpop has a huge and thriving community with articles, quizzes on your favorite game, answers, videos, wallpapers and the best part…a ton of user generated content.  Bear in mind that most fan sites don’t get anywhere near this large, and they are usually a gamer’s dedication to just one game but you can still build a thriving community gaming site from one game.
