Assassin's Creed Confirmed For PC And Xbox 360 // UPDATE - not
Ever since Ubisoft announced Assassin's Creed a while ago, they have always been mentioning Sony's PlayStation 3 alone as a target platform for their new Action/Adventure game, but they never actually claimed it to be an exclusive PS3 title. And now we know why! During the Interactive Digital Entertainment Festival that was held last week in Cannes, France, Ubisoft confirmed earlier suspicions that Assassin's Creed was indeed being developed for both PC and the Xbox 360, in addition to the PlayStation 3.
This was only to be expected of Ubisoft, who's multi-format strategy has been similar to that of Electronic Arts lately. And with games like Prince of Persia and Splinter Cell doing great on multiple platforms, Assassin's Creed was bound to follow in their footsteps - even if, for a short while, it looked like Sony had it covered.
Having won multiple awards, including the Game Critics' Best Action/Adventure Game of E3 2006, Assassin's Creed clearly stood out as one of the major titles unveiled this year in Los Angeles, and at the same time one of the few PS3 games worth looking forward to. But now that the stealthy cat is out of the hat, it seems that Sony has lost yet another argument in favor of their next-gen console. After all, would you pay $60-$100 for a game and $500/$600 for a console, when you can play the same game on the PC or Xbox 360 at a lower price?
UPDATE: Yeah, right! Once again, Ubisoft jumps in to deny earlier reports, through the voice of a UK Community Manager who claims that: "Ubisoft have confirmed no such thing. Assassin's Creed will come on PlayStation 3 and at this time, no other platform has been confirmed." [05.07.2006, 14:13]
