Ok, so our previous story about the supposed Nintendo Wii launch date was a bit of a stretch, but at least this time around there's no drunken official involved. Well, not that we know of anyway. The latest news on the matter claims that November 6th is, in fact, the day that Nintendo will release their upcoming console in the US. What's more, at least two entirely different (but equally *cough* reliable) sources have hinted at the same date: one of them is the latest issue of "Sports Illustrated for Kids" magazine (blurry scans here), and the other one "an industry source" speaking to Cubed3, who are also giving a fair warning that this is far from being a final, official release date.
"Our source emphasised that this date is correct at present, but pointed out: "Nintendo aren't going to have an exact date in mind until they are sure they can meet the deadlines". Take it as a guide then if you will, but "they are very keen to be ready in time"."
November 6th or not, Nintendo's plan to Wii the world keeps on unfolding, with the revelation of a new set of Wii trademarks. After the likes of WiiKaraoke.com or WiiBreeding.com popping up in the last couple of months, Nintendo is also said to have patented the following trademarks:
- WiiCan
- WiiClub
- WiiCommunication
- WiiDiary
- WiiHappy
- WiiHealth
- WiiHome
- WiiKids
- WiiMap
- WiiOnline
- WiiSenior
- WiiWords
- WWWii
Not all of these have valid .com addresses associated with them, and judging by their name alone leaves room for plenty of guessing. Do any of them really mean anything? Are they just decoys registered by Nintendo to give their fans something to think about while waiting for the real thing? Beats me. But hopefully this will all clear out by November. So don't worry. WiiHappy!
