7,000 PS Games Emulated On the PSP By The End Of 2007

Reports are coming in based on the latest issue of the UK PSP Magazine, which hints at several PSP-PSOne emulation launch titles, as well as Sony's future plans for this service. Accordig to this story, Sony already confirmed for the British magazine some exciting launch titles, including Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy VIII, Tomb Raider, Castlevania: SOTN, and Silent Hill. That's not to say there won't be other PlayStation games playable on the PSP at the launch of the service, as well, but for now these are the only ones announced.

No release date or pricing details are known as of yet, however Sony did reveal that, by the end of 2007, it plans to have up to 7,000 PSOne titles available via the service. That's something like... 6,700+ titles more than what the current Xbox 360 backwards compatibility list has to offer!

Another interesting bit of info is that, according to the magazine, a new firmware update will be released for the PSP around the launch of the PS3. Which reminds me of the PSP 2.71 firmware hack, from just a few days ago, allowing modders to run ISOs and homebrew off of the memory card. You can see it on Kotaku.

And just as a quick, final reminder, the last PSOne console left Sony's production line some three months ago.
