For once in his life, George Broussard was right. You know, last week, when he said he smells gold? Well, the news all Prey fans have been waiting for was finally announced yesterday by Take Two / 2K Games, revealing that the gravitationally challenged shooter had indeed gone Gold and is clearly on trak for its North American release on July 11th, and July 14th in Europe, bearing a "M" rating.

Developed by Human Head Studios under the direct supervision of 3D Realms, Prey will be available for Xbox 360 and PC in both a regular edition and a Limited Collector's Edition - detailed here. The demo for the PC version of Prey is currently available for download, with an Xbox 360 demo available soon. Word is they're still testing it over at Microsoft, before letting it loose on the Xbox Live Marketplace. But my guess is they're just fragging their brains out in Deathmatch, and totally forgot about work.

And just a as quick reminder to those who lost track of the project since its early days in the 1990's, when it was first being made by 3D Realms, here's a brief summary provided by Take Two:

"Prey is a groundbreaking first-person shooter that turns the genre upside-down with new gameplay features and next generation graphics. Breaking the traditional first-person shooter format, Prey introduces innovative gameplay elements including wall-walking, portals, spirit-walking and gravity flipping, which allows for insane eight player deathmatches."
