The Brits from CVG - you know, the guys that launched that rumour about a PS3 version of God of War - are back with more mythological stories about everyone's favorite hero-turned-god, Kratos. They've been talking with the game's director Cory Barlog (no more shady inside sources!), and one of the things he revealed is that a trilogy would be the ideal way for Kratos' story to fully unfold. Or, in other words, God of War III would be a natural addition after God of War II ships in early 2007 for the PS2.

Barlog told [CVG], "I would love to see a trilogy happen. Dave [Jaffe] and I have a pretty similar view as to where the story of Kratos should go and it does play itself out in a trilogy. (...)

But there are no trilogy plans as of right now. We are telling the continuation of Kratos' life as we left off from the first game. The story in God of War II will begin to show a larger view of Kratos' role within the mythological world."

Question is: should God of War III become a reality, will it be the last of its kind for the ageing PlayStation 2, or will the trilogy actually end on the new PlayStation 3? Well, CVG believes that the entire trilogy will unfold on the PS2, and that a separate set of new God of War adventures will land on the next-gen machine.

I can't say I share their beliefs myself, but then again, it does make a lot of sense from a commercial standpoint. And as they used to say in ancient Greece: marketing uber alles!
