It's been a while since the last Command & Conquer game came out on a console (back in 1999), and it may take another while before that happens again... But, then again, it might happen sooner than expected! At least according to Gaming Steve, whose latest podcast claims that the upcoming PC RTS Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars is "definitely" going to be released on the Xbox 360:
"I know for a fact that they are doing this because these are the same guys, the same team who's doing Command & Conquer 3, and they're definitely gonna release it for the 360--you heard it here," he proclaimed. "They're really using Battle for Middle-earth II as a springboard, a test to see how it's gonna work for Command & Conquer 3. So they're almost trying to use this as a beta, a very good beta. So when they kind of streamline this, when they design Command & Conquer 3, they'll be able to get a lot more information and they'll be able to come out with a really strong Command & Conquer 3 both for the PC and the 360."
As sure of himself as he may have been, however, his speculations were left unconfirmed after he turned his questions over to Louis Castle - creator of the C&C series, cofounder of Westwood Studios, and currently EALA's Vice President of Creative Development. Castle refused to answer any questions regarding Command & Conquer 3, but, then again, he didn't deny a Xbox 360 version either by keeping quiet.
So, we'll just have to wait and see how Battle for Middle-earth II turns out on the Xbox 360, and if all goes well, it's not unconceivable at all that EA would try to port Tiberium Wars on the Xbox 360. Eventually.
