Nintendo Confirms DS Lite Theft, But Was It Black Or White? It may not be a matter of life and death for most of us if we were to get a white DS Lite instead of a black one, but for many others out there, it makes a
lot of difference! With just a few days left until Nintendo's redesigned handheld is released in Europe, it came as quite a shock when a whole shipment of DS Lites was stolen in Hong Kong earlier this month. The initial rumour was confirmed by Nintendo, but the question remains: were they black or white?
According to a story on Play Gadgets from last week, a container full of 12.000+
black Nintendo DS Lites and DS games had gone missing in Hong Kong when it was making its way from China (where the DS Lites are made) to Europe. The shipment was supposedly worth $2.32 million (Euro 1.84 million), and several people reported they had indeed come across black DS Lites being sold on the ironically black market in Hong Kong.
Nintendo eventually confirmed the story to GamesIndustry.biz yesterday, while trying to reassure fans that there will be enough units available when the DS Lite goes on sale in Europe, on June 23rd, for Euro 149.99 a piece.
Nintendo declined to confirm figures, however, simply stating: "A number of White DS Lite made for the UK market were stolen in Hong Kong."
"Nintendo is making every effort to ensure that there is enough product available in the UK to meet market demand at launch."
Umm... what's that about
white DS Lites? Way to go with the "confirmation"!
