Pro Evolution Soccer 6 Evolving To Next-Generation Consoles

The release of Pro Evolution Soccer 6 in the second half of 2006 will signal the arrival of Konami's famed soccer series - also known as Winning Eleven in Japan - on the next generation consoles. Surprisingly enough, only the Xbox 360 version of Pro Evolution Soccer 6 was confirmed by Konami so far, though its release date is the same as the previously announced PC, PS2 and PSP versions - Q3 2006.

At the same time, the series will also make its debut on the Nintendo DS with Pro Evolution Soccer 6, scheduled for release during the same timeframe mentioned above. Needless to say the graphics for these two new versions - DS and Xbox 360 - will be radically different, and we already have some PES 6 screenshots on the PS2 and on the Xbox 360 to give you an idea of what to expect. No word yet on the PC version, as Konami is leaving us to wonder if the graphics will tend to be more next-gen, or just the usual PS2/Xbox console port. We'd surely love to see something looking a little bit like this on our rusty PCs, but if I were to take a wild guess here, I'd say that anyone yearning for photo-realistic visuals will just have to make the move to the Xbox 360.

As previously announced, the PS2 version will have some licensed national teams (Argentina, Italy, England, Holland, Spain), and - among other game modes - "Random Selection Match" and "International Challenge". As usual, the Japanese version Winning Eleven 10 was released earlier this year (at the end of April), so Konami still has plenty of time to refine the gameplay. Gambatte!
