Halo 3 Now Official, With Teaser Trailer Ready For Download

Halo 3, the third and final game in Bungie's Halo Trilogy, has been announced at long last! I know we've all seen this one coming (hell, even Bill Gates spoiled the surprise a few times already), but that doesn't make the revelation any less spectacular. With a teaser trailer already available for download and streaming locally, Halo 3 was first revealed to the world at the Microsoft press conference at Grauman's Chinese Theater, in Hollywood, as a Xbox 360 exclusive title coming sometime in 2007.

According to Bungie, everything we see in the announcement trailer is being rendered in real-time on the Xbox 360, using the current version of their Halo 3 game engine. The HDR lighting, self-shadowing, GPU-run particle system and many other effects should make it intact (and more) to the final game. The devs are giving a whole description of their presentation, but if you want to check it all out and maybe spoil a few things, you'll have to read the Halo 3 announcement from Bungie's website - where a Halo 3 section has also been opened, with screenshots, a wallpaper, FAQs and such. Suffice to say that "Cortana and the Chief being a galaxy apart is a situation we haven't seen before", and that "There is a glorious, ancient artifact buried under the Earth's crust", and we have the starting point for what is sure to become another massive hit on the Xbox 360, in 2007.
