| HOMM V And Future Ubisoft Games Free Of StarForce // UPDATE
It's already been known for a few days that Heroes of Might and Magic V won't be using the troubled StarForce copy protection system anymore, and now it seems that Ubisoft actually plans to completely abandon this virtual curse in its future titles. Even Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter will adopt another protection system, according to some reports, and this tendency will also extend over the rest of Ubisoft's games - as it was announced yesterday by a Community Manager on the company's official French forums.
We're not sure yet if this sudden change in policy was prompted by StarForce's increasingly disastruous reputation, or by some legal issues, but the important thing here is that gamers will finally be able to breathe easier from now on (especially if they own a legal copy of the game, ironically enough).
UPDATE: According to GameSpot, the whole thing is now official, and Ubisoft's motivation is supposed to be both a "moral" one, as well as legal (knowing how the company was recently sued by gamers who were angry at the StarForce system included in their games). [14.04.2006, 10:16]
