The GameInformer magazine prides itself with the unveiling of the first Nintendo Revolution game developed by Ubisoft: Red Steel, an "incredibly violent" FPS that promises to combine shooting and swordplay elements, thanks to Nintendo's innovative new controller. Naturally enough, the newsbit posted on GameInfomer's website doesn't reveal much about the game, however the article has already been scanned and exposed on several shady websites. We'll have to wait a little more for some quality screenshots, but at least we know that the opening story goes like this:

"you play an American gentleman who's engaged to a lady called Miyu. After she is kidnapped, you discover that her Dad, Sato, is a Yakuza boss who owns a mysterious ceremonial katana - and rival mobsters are after it. They offer to return Miyu in exchange for the sword, but Sato's having none of it - he gives the katana to you instead and tells you to find his daughter."

You'll be swinging your katana with the gyroscopic pad, which will detect the movements of your wrist and... somehow, translate them into the game. You won't always have to kill your enemies, because leaving them alive might grant you new weapons or shortcuts to secret levels. I can't really say I'm excited about this game, and I doubt it will be much of a graphical extravaganza, given the Revolution's modest technical specifications. But we have to remember that it's the gameplay that's going to make a difference (or so they keep telling us).

Red Steel is currently being developed at Ubisoft Paris, by a team whose previous credits include Prince of Persia, Far Cry Instincts and Ghost Recon.
