| World in Conflict, From The Makers Of Ground Control
"Project ICE" as it was initially known, now turns out to be World in Conflict - a new hardcore strategy game coming from Swedish developer Massive Entertainment, although placed in a somewhat more contemporary timeline than their futuristic Ground Control series. The first ones to get the scoop on the project were the guys from PC Gamer, who found out that World in Conflict takes place in an alternate history, where Mother Russia never really fell apart, but instead is planning a massive invasion in the US. And with goodies such as "destructible environments", "16 player MP" or "amazing looking" graphics, we're definitely up for a strategic feast:
"...everything is dynamic and destructable - if you blow up building blocks, houses and forests, it acctualy updates the path-finding for the units. So you can napalm a strip of forest and go through there with your tanks. You can blow up a bridge and cut the enemy off.... when massive bombardment takes place everything changes. When all forests are burned down the clouds turn dark and everything is gloomy. So it can turn from happy suburbia to post-apocaliptic nightmare in just few minutes"
The full PC Gamer article (without screenshots unfortunately) was posted in this topic from Massive's forum. And in case you missed your chance last year, the original Ground Control game is still available as a free download from FilePlanet.
