| The whole thing began a few days ago, when Scott "Lum the Mad" Jennings announced oh his website that he had parted ways with the Mythic Entertainment studio, leaving behind years of |j|Dark Age of Camelot|j| and a mysterious Warhammer MMO (Imperator is history by now). And even though he didn't give away any hints about the "fantastic opportunity" he's about to embark on, the irony is that the very next day a rumour popped-out, claiming that Mythic might be bought by Electronic Arts! The speculated amount was $30-50 million, which only goes to show how desperate EA must be getting to make a name for themselves in the ever-so-hot massively-multiplayer online market. But guess what: the irony doesn't end here!
It didn't take long for Mythic CEO, Mark Jacobs, to step in with an ambiguously long statement. However the idea becomes pretty clear between the lines:
"Also keep in mind that Mythic has been courted and courted a ton of times over the years. We have rejected lots of offers throughout the years, including one whose value was a heck of a lot more than that in the rumor (which makes the rumor that much more fun)."
In other words, even if Eletronic Arts did indeed make them an acquisition offer - something that Mythic is used to by now, the said ammount would be too small to be taken seriously by the developer. So it might happen someday, it might not... It's all a matter of how much EA is willing to spend, or for how long will Mythic keep on playing hard to get.
