The cute (and free) MMORPG Dofus is about to get a small brother this year, not quite as "massively multiplayer", but just as online and quirky. Dofus-Arena is the name given by its French parents at Ankama Studio, and as for its gameplay, it will focus on tactical 1-vs-1 and 2-vs-2 battles, fought in "arenas" that should look very familiar to fans of Japanese tactical gamelings. The idea behind the game is quite simple: each player has a set number of credits before a battle, which he can use for gearing up his chosen warriors (with weapons, armors, pets, spells and so on), and then hope that his opponent won't be able to counter his fluffy army. Since the universe is the same as in Dofus, the new game offers the same kind of character classes, 11 all in all. And I think I already found my favorite:

"The class of Sadida's Shoe is composed of curious creatures. They sleep 23 hours a day and are in complete harmony with nature."

Ahhh... Divine! But to get to the point, the devs are inviting us to sign up for the open beta-testing phase, with the latest version of the Dofus-Arena client (beta 7) already being available locally for download. Several screenshots are also up for viewing in our Dofus-Arena gallery.

P.S.: After installing the client myself and creating an Ankama Games account (register page), I was pleased to find that you can play it straight away, without any kind of "beta drawing". Kawaii!
