Remember how many games the Xbox 360 had on launch day last year? 18, out of which 11 were sports or racing games. And up until now, only 15 titles are said to be confirmed for the launch of Sony's PlayStation 3 (though there's certainly room for more until November). So where does Nintendo stand in this next-gen battle? Well, to tell you the truth, there are already so many games announced as Wii launch titles, that we've lost track of the exact count.
But thankfully Nwizard.com went through that trouble and came up with a list of 27 Wii games, more or less confirmed as launch titles. Ladies, gents and lolicons, behold:
Avatar: The Last Airbender - THQ
Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII - Ubisoft
Blitz: The League - Midway
Call of Duty 3 - Activision
Cars - THQ
Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2 - Atari
Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors - Square Enix
Elebits - Konami
Excite Truck - Nintendo
Far Cry - Ubisoft
GT Pro Series - Ubisoft
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers - Square Enix
Madden NFL 07 - EA
Marvel: Ultimate Alliance - Activision
Metal Slug Anthology - SNK
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption - Nintendo
Monster 4x4 World Circuit - Ubisoft
Need for Speed: Carbon - EA
Open Season - Ubisoft
Rayman Raving Rabbids - Ubisoft
Red Steel - Ubisoft
SpongeBob SquarePants: Creature from the Krusty Krab - THQ
Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz - Sega
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess - Nintendo
Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam - Activision
Trauma Center: Second Opinion - Atlus
Wii Sports - Nintendo
While the PS3's launch offering is dominated by first-party games, the Wii is clearly enjoying a lot more support from third-party publishers. Leading in terms of quantity (and maybe even quality) is Ubisoft with 7 games listed above, such as Red Steel, Rayman Raving Rabbids and the recently announced Far Cry for the Wii.
All in all, it's a very diverse list, full of promising titles and Nintendo exclusives. And considering that the Wii might launch with as many as 35 games (according to SPOnG), this is definitely shaping up to be one of the most attractive console launches to date.
