"He who controls the past commands the future. He who commands the future conquers the past." Yes, it was George Orwell who first wrote that in his "1984" anti-totalitarian novel. But it was Kane who made it famous among the Command & Conquer community; and it suits him like an iron glove. In the latest C&C 3 newsletter, that same quote resurfaced alongside a teasing animation with the NOD logo, and the promise that something major will be revealed at the Leipzig Games Convention in Germany (24-27 August) - something "that is going to shake the very foundation of the Global Defense Initiative (GDI) and rattle the spines of every human on the planet". Are you shaking? Cause I'm not.
Fortunately, the newsletter also contained these new screenshots and renders of a couple of GDI units - the Mammoth Tank and the Orca - which you can learn more about here.
Expect to see Mammoths excel during head-to-head armor battles because of their distinct ability to blast through enemy armor and knock hostile structures to the ground. When supported by anti-aircraft vehicles, such as the Firehawk, they command the field. As an escort for Juggernaut artillery, the Mammoth can destroy any enemy fortified position. In general, the Mammoth is the last GDI armor to enter the battle, and the last armor to remain on the field intact.
Orcas are common to the battlefield and serve as the most versatile and responsive stealth detector. They can respond to flank attacks quickly and don't have to circumnavigate rough terrain to get to the action. Orcas are also armed with powerful rockets that are well suited to anti-ground vehicle action, but can be used against enemy aircraft and structures when needed."
Digging around, we also came upon these fresh C&C 3: Tiberium Wars scans from a recent German Gamestar magazine preview, showing plenty of in-game scenes. Tiberium fields, mammoths, juggernaugths, war factories, tech centers, radars, power plants, refineries, silos... you name it, they got it!
