Various "unforeseen circumstances" have forced Introversion's latest project, Defcon, to miss its April launch window, and now we finally have a new release date thanks to Eurogamer's very special interest in this title. They checked with the British developer and received confirmation that Defcon is set for a September release, just as they previously hinted after the delay.
The reason we're also keeping a close eye on Defcon is a little game called Darwinia, one of last year's most original and refreshing game experiences, also crafted by Introversion. Defcon, too, will keep things simple in terms of graphics, while trying to make the gameplay as addictive as possible.
Defcon is basically a game of thermonuclear war, clearly inspired by the classic "WarGames" movie from the '80s, simulating the beginning, the exponential escalation and the devastating outcome of a Global Thermonuclear War. An outcome that, no matter how many times you play it, will never be a happy one. "But maybe - just maybe - you can lose the least", as Introversion puts it.
The best source of info on Defcon is still Eurogamer's interview from back in January, for those who would like to know more about Introversion's upcoming "end of the world" simulator. Local screenshots are available here.
