Incinerator Games is THQ's latest addition to their growing internal Studio System, with a development team comprised of veterans of the Twisted Metal, NFL GameDay and MLB 2006: The Show projects from Sony's 989 studios, as well as the Midnight Club franchise from Rockstar. The new studio's formation was announced yesterday by THQ, and their primary focus will be the development of games for next generation consoles, from over in sunny California.

As such, their first project is the next-gen console version of Disney / Pixar's latest blockbuster "Cars", which is being adapted to Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Nintendo's Wii systems. The PC, PS2 and Xbox versions of Cars: The Videogame were developed by Rainbow Studios, and were released in early June with surprisingly good retail success, having sold 600,000 units in North America alone during last month.

The Xbox 360 and Wii versions of Cars should be out this fall, and in the meantime THQ said that the team is also working on future projects for next generation systems.

"The addition of Incinerator Games is another example of our dedication to enhance and expand our internal development capabilities," said Jack Sorensen, executive vice president of worldwide studios, THQ. "We're really excited to see the Incinerator team begin to bring its own ideas for next generation development to THQ."
