You'd think that after developing a WWII real-time strategy for three years, they would manage to come up with at least a handful of campaigns, for most of the countries involved in the conflict. But GFI is something of a special case: instead of expanding their Officers RTS with new features, they actually removed two of the game's campaigns and, along the way, scaled down the maps from 20x20 km (that's 400 square km) to just 25 square kilometers each (5x5 km). God forbid they keep it in development for another year or two!

According to GFI's announcement today, Officers has entered closed beta-testing, and will be released "very soon". They also provide a summary for the game's actual state, revealing that the German and Soviet campaigns will only be included in a future add-on. That is, assuming enough people will buy the game in the first place.

Below is a brief (and hopefully not outdated) description of the game:

"Officers is a 3D RTS game with a non-linear storyline where the player acts as a military commander. The game is also a unique combat simulator that covers the whole period of World War II. High emphasis has been laid on tactical and strategic aspects so that the player will have to take care of re-supplies and stockpiles in addition to tactical maneuvering and combat operations."

Finally, GFI released a new Officers trailer today, and we dragged ourselves to update the local gallery with the latest screenshots.
