QuakeCon 2006 Championship With $100,000 Worth of Prizes

It only took about a day for all 1,800 BYOC (bring your own computer) spots to be claimed, once the QuakeCon 2006 registration process began late last month. And with the usual sponsors - Intel, nVidia and Activision - already confirmed for this year's event, it's now time for the first QuakeCon tournaments to be announced. First off is the return of the NVIDIA Championships, with a combined prize amount of $100,000 spread across four tournaments, featuring Quake 4 and Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory.

Here's a brief description of the four tournaments, with more details to follow shortly on the QuakeCon website.

QUAKE 4 1v1 - $35,000

Two people, thousands of rounds, hundreds of rockets, only one champion. The first Quake 4 championship held at QuakeCon already promises to be a vicious battle to the finals. Don't miss it!

QUAKE 4 2v2 - $25,000

Get together with your friend for a furious battle against other two-man (or woman!) teams to find out which pair will end up on top.

Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory 5v5 - $30,000

A crowd favorite from many years past, get ready to gather up the best team possible to trounce the competition in round after round of Nazi-killing goodness.

All new QuakeCon event - $10,000

An all new QuakeCon gaming event sponsored by NVIDIA - celebrating QUAKE's 10th birthday with a QUAKE 4 event created for the fans. If you're attending QuakeCon, start practicing. More details to come later this week.

Not sure what the mystery [Quake 4] event is going to be, but feel free to take a wild guess in this "NVIDIA Championships at QuakeCon" topic - where you can also rant about fun vs. sponsored tournaments, and about last year's yet to be paid ET winners... By the way, there's still no word on how Enemy Territory: Quake Wars will fit in at QuakeCon 2006. And the show is just three weeks away.
